            Micrografx Picture Publisher 5.0 Notes
            ======================================

OLE 2.0
=======

In order for OLE 2.0 to properly use compound file implementation
that SHARE.EXE must always be running in the autoexec.bat
with the line SHARE /L:500 /F:5100.

PRINTING ISSUES
===============

If you print to a PostScript device and are experiencing problems
(for example, the image looks like it is printed at a low resolution), you
can set the PRINTSCALING=1 in the PP.INI file.

To print optimally to PostScript printers, the GeneratePostScript=1 is set
in the PP.INI which causes Picture Publisher to generate PostScript
information. It is automatically set to on with this installation.
To disable this setting, change GeneratePostScript=0 in the PP.INI file.

If you want non-PostScript devices to send full color or grayscale
information to the printer driver, select the Use Printer Screening option
in the Print dialog box. Printing full grayscale images to Primera printers
corrected.

SCANNING ISSUES
===============

NIKON COOLSCAN
The Nikon Coolscan will require the .DLLs to be copied to the root directory
of PICTPUB5 in order to communicate with the scanner correctly. The Nikon
setup (from Nikon) puts the drivers in the DEVICES subdirectory of Picture
Publisher. You must use SCAN. The TWAIN plugin module will not work at this
time with PP50a so you cannot use ACQUIRE.
The required DLL's are:
NKNGPIB1.DLL
NKNSCDLG.DLL
NKNSCDRV.DLL

Some options buttons were not showing up in non-twain scanner dialog boxes.
ie. Epson

HP Deskcan 2.1 compatibility.

Corrected problem with scanning 256 color images with certain scanners
causing GP faults.

TWAIN compatibility more robust with newer updates on various file flavors
such as line art and 256 colors.

If you experience inverted color or grayscale images when scanning, you can
set the SCANLAINVERT= statement in the PP.INI file to ScanLAInvert=1. This
inverts the inverted data. If you set this to 0, the data remains as it is
scanned.

CMS
===

Print preview in CMS is more robust. Enable print preview with the current
printer.

PhotoStyler CMS images can open with Picture Publisher's CMS.

CMS no longer rebuilds database each time program is launched.

Note on HP DESKJET/INKJET Series printers:
When using CMS, use the profile for the HP550C or obtain
the specific profile for your printer model from KODAK.

16 additional profiles are added with the Kodak CMS update disk.

NETWORK INFO
============
You can disable displaying volume names in the ImageBrowser by adding
UseVolumeLabels=0. This keeps Windows for Workgroups from attempting
to enumerate all the drives each time an image is opened. The symptom
is that the ImageBrowser is very slow in opening.

Currently you may need to change the path name of where Picture Publisher
and the subdirectories are installed to in order to operate from the
network if the mapping of drives are different on various systems. This
will be fixed in future versions. Change the following path names to the
correct path of the network in the local PP.INI located in the Picture
Publisher subdirectory. This can also be done in the options\preferences\
files tab dialog in Picture Publisher.

Device=N:\..\DEVICES
Texture=N:\..\TEXTURES
Palette=N:\..\PALETTES
Effects=N:\..\EFFECTS
PrnStyle=N:\..\PRINTSTY
Brush=N:\..\BRUSHES
ClipBit=N:\..\CLIPBITS
Shapepath=N:\..\CLIPBITS
Macros=N:\..\MACROS
Filters=N:\..\FILTERS

GENERAL PROGRAM FIXES
=====================

Batch Macro can now select file types.

Kai's Power Tools "Find Edges" no longer cause a GP fault.

Paste at real size is fixed. The Paste at Real Size option lets you
indicate that an image is pasted using the height and width dimensions
instead of scaling the image to the destination image.

Upper ASCII characters allowable.

Color shield was not working with preview when selecting map functions.

Copying to a texture is now in alphabetical order.

There is now a new PP.INI switch called NoHiResRebuild, which when set to 1
disables the hi-res rebuild for pasting low-res data into a hi-res image.

Resizing to an exact number of pixels is now accurate.

Corrected some AVI and TIF files reportedly causing GP faults opening.

Open large image with rulers active, now displays ticks or numbers correctly.

Wingding fonts placed on the screen display correctly.

Edit polyline style and receive "System resources are too low" corrected.

Creating a new pallette from a 256 image produced grey values.

Generated line segments with polyline draw tool was of less or greater
length than what was selected.

Corrected problem with scanning line art and save as an EPS file. Import
the graphic into PageMaker the line did not display correctly but printed
out.

When editing a lineart image in FastBits mode vertical lines no longer
appear.
